Child Abuse Pediatrics
The Feinberg School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics, in partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, specializes in the prevention, identification and treatment of child abuse and neglect. The faculty of the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics is comprised of board-certified child abuse pediatricians.
What We Do
Patient Care
Lurie Children’s Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics, through the Protective Services Team (PST), provides assessments and care for a diverse population of children who are victims of abuse or neglect around the Chicago area. The PST provides psychosocial and medical assessments of children and makes recommendations to cooperating agencies for treatment plans.
Research
Our faculty members are involved in research related to understanding the effects of child abuse and maltreatment and improving behaviors, evaluations and outcomes. Faculty in the division have a growing presence in the field, and present at many national conferences and organizations.
Education
Our faculty members mentor medical students, residents and fellows in evaluation and intervention services for children who may have been maltreated. The division is committed to training the next generation of child abuse pediatricians through our fellowship program. The team also holds an annual Child Maltreatment Symposium, which brings in speakers from across the country to educate physicians and professionals from all disciplines who care for children.
Advocacy
Our faculty and staff members are actively coordinate efforts of experts within the hospital and from external public and voluntary agencies to better serve children and their families.
